My oldest recently turned nine and I’m still trying to wrap my mind around it! His big request for his birthday was a Lord of the Rings birthday party. Now I’ll admit I’m typically not one to jump at the opportunity to throw a birthday party. I usually try to steer the kids in the direction of a fun outing, but every once in a while they will ask for a party. This one was actually pretty fun when it all came together. I thought it would be fun to share the details with you in case you have your own Middle Earth fan.
The quotes we displayed around the house in different places was one of my favorite details. I’m a word lover, so it was pretty fun to pick some of my favorites from the series. Here are a few that we chose.
The other decorations included; a yellow and green flag garland made from felt and jutte, burlap ribbon and ivy, and a map of Middle Earth poster we picked up from The Hobby Lobby. For party favors we handed out bundles of sparklers; which worked out really well since his birthday is on the fourth of July!
Lastly, the icing on the cake (pun intended😉) was the eye of Sauron cake. Every year I get outlandish requests for elaborately designed birthday cakes from my kids, and somehow I always manage to scrape by with my limited cake decorating skills. This one was actually pretty easy, thankfully! This all made for a very happy birthday boy who said it was the best birthday ever, so it’s all worth it right? Needless to say I took a nap once all the party fun was over!
